KEEP YOUR FAMILY HEALTHY

While the issues of illness spreading isn’t an exact science, its still important to do all you can to keep your family healthy.

Any time that someone in your household is sick, you run the risk of the illness spreading to other residents in the home. While the issue of illnesses spreading isn’t an exact science, it’s still important to do all you can to keep your family healthy. Although each individual can take their own precautions, there are some steps you can take to make your entire home safer as well. Here are just a few ways you can lower the chance of spreading illness in your home.

Install a New Air Filter

The air filter on your HVAC system can help keep your home clean by filtering dust particles out of the air. However, if you upgrade your air filter to one with a higher MERV rating, you can help capture some common pathogens, as well. Although a filter can’t catch everything, it can help to limit the spread of germs in the air throughout your home, giving your family members a better chance of staying healthy.

Upgrade Your Water Heater

Hot water is essential for properly sanitizing dishes and fabrics when a family member is ill. Therefore, if your water heater has seen better days, it’s important to have a new one installed so that you can have the hot water you need when you need it. Water heater installation can be done quickly by a qualified contractor, meaning you can even have it done after a family member becomes ill so that you can increase your sanitizing capabilities.

Sanitize High-Touch Surfaces

While spraying sanitizer all around a room can help to kill some germs, the most effective type of sanitization is targeted sanitization. By focusing on high-touch surfaces throughout your home, such as doorknobs, countertops, and drawer handles, you will be able to keep your family healthy with less effort and less waste. When someone in your home is sick, it’s best if one person handles the sanitization in case others in your family are becoming ill, as well.

Provide Necessary Materials

Washing your hands is one of the easiest ways to help prevent the spread of germs. However, for this to be effective, your family needs to have access to the proper hand-washing materials at all times. By keeping full bottles of soap and clean towels near your home’s sinks, your family members will be more likely to properly wash their hands so that they don’t unknowingly spread germs.

Don’t Be A Hero

One reason that illnesses are often spread around a home is that the person who is sick sometimes waits too long to see a doctor. Although not every illness requires a doctor’s visit, if your family member’s symptoms persist for several days, encourage them to seek treatment so that they can get better sooner, thus lowering the risk for the rest of your family. Though heroes are necessary for some facets of life, bearing an illness alone is not one of those facets.

Follow these tips to lower the chance of spreading illness around your household.
